Can't login to SUSE 9.1-and no sound and no screen

When I boot up I get the command line for login and password. I put those in and it says have a nice day or some other nonsense. Then I get the next command line anthony@linux. What the F**K do I do now? WHy isn't it going into GUI login page anymore?

ALso, I set up my audigy card and it sees it but I still have no freakin' sound.

I can see why LINUX is NOT setting the world on fire at this point.

Linux DOES take some getting used to, be patient.

A temporary solution to get to the GUI login is to press ctrl+alt+F7 (ctrl+alt+F1-6 are command line logins). Once into the GUI login its just a case of looking at the settings to set it to default.

As for the sound card - dont know, unless you can get drivers from the maufacturer. Will keep looking for you...

Update: looks like there are other people who cant get audigies to work under liunx: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...002/04/2/15951

SuSE shows a GUI for the login screen by default, did you change something called "run level" during the installation?

I don't even know what run level is. I tried the various ctr +alt etc. One took me to a blank screen with a blinking cursor and nothing else. The other startx just took me back to cursor anthony@linux. All I changed was my monitor. I told it what I had and it recognized it.

Also, within some of the command lines now I see 'no screen found'.

Perhaps a problem with my video card? I have leadwinfast 400 6800gt
