Virtual PC 6.1 for Mac

Ok, so I wanted to use my copy of WinXP that came with VPC to install on the laptop i'll be getting, problem is, WinXP didn't come by itself in the VPC installation package. It's on the same CD that sets up the "PC" on the Mac so that OSX can run WinXP. I think i've found the WinXP files on the disc, in a large .zip file (512Mb) called Win_Xp_Pro.zip Do you think there's a way I can still use this disc to install WinXP on a non-Mac machine?? Or possibly burn these files to a disc?

I'll also post this in the WinXP help forum in case it's more appropriate there.

yes, see the site below for instructions on how to get the files onto a bootable CD...

thanks for the reply, there's a lot of useful information there. I just found something in the WIN-XP getting started manual that says when installing XP, all other software gets erased for the new OS. So might it be easier just to take that .zip file and run the setup.exe on the old OS on the laptop??

I think you'll find that the .zip file is a disk image of a full XP installation.

it does contain a disk image, like 1.36 Gb, but it lists VPC as the default program to open it.... would I just burn the image to a DVD or something, and maybe run that in the laptop?

No, it's an OS that was set up inside Virtual PC using the emulated hardware and requires Virtual PC to be able to run. It's a disk image for ease of installation and distribution but will not run on a PC.
