X11 Duplicate symbol error
I am trying to install xorg-x11 on gentoo linux and I get an error when I try to start it using startx...
The error I get is this: Duplicate symbol __i686.get_pc_thunk.bx in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a:bitmapmod.o Also defined in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a Fatal server error: Module load failure XIO: fatal IO error 104 (connect reset by peer) on X server "0:0" I also checked the log file and there was a warning about "open APM failed", I'm not sure if that matters. These are the steps did: emerge ati-drivers emerge xorg-x11 env-update source /etc/profile fglrxconfig (answered the questions that came up) (moved the file created to /etc/X11/xorg.conf) startx that's when I get the error... |

no one knows how to solve this problem or can point me in the right direction?? I'd really like to get this thing up and running, but I'm not gonna keep linux on my system if I can't get a graphical desktop running correctly

Do you have hardened in your USE flags?
What are the contents of /etc/make.conf? |
