Linux on Sun Hardware?

Quick question here...

Is it possible, and not only possible, but easy to install and run Linux on Sun Microsystems hardware?

I'd say it depends more on what Sun hardware you are using? A number of the commonly heard distros are ported to various Sun hardware - you need to see what h/w you are running and then look for a ported distro. Sun has SPARC and x86 machines.

Slightly offtrack, but why would you want Linux over Solaris?

There are Linux distros made for Sun hardware, but it does matter on the hardware how easy it is to install.
