New Linux Distro
I was just in slashdot and found this article on Unbuntu, a new Linux OS.
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/ It is based on Debian, is completely free, The company who makes Ubuntu at the moment will send you an already pressed disk for free and they will pay shipping. They promise a new release every six months. The web shots at www.slashdot.org look good. This is the first release so there are some bugs that need to be worked out. I think I am going to try this.

Downloaded it last week, very nice, I needed it to test/show Linux multi-lingual capabilities, it did the job pretty well.

It's interesting to see when you read a lot of linux websites how some program or distro suddenly gains widespread popularity and attention. It actually almost got me to install ubuntu =0) but I figured out how to fix my gentoo install so I passed.
Btw, I think now installing openbox is the new craze.

When you have a system your happy with you should stay with it. Gentoo is a very good OS. I have not found one that I want to keep fooling with yet but I am partial to the Debian based systems. I've enjoyed Knoppix and especially Libranet. I will try Unbuntu, but if I don't like that one I may go back to Libranet since they offer there full version for free now. I think what got me with this is the owners philosophy on it. He seems real partial to the open source community.
