removing red hat 9 help..
i need some help.... i want to remove red hat 9 from my old computer but i dont no how to go about it... its currently being used as a server and its been turned into a text based OS so i dont no the commands if there are any... any help?

the simplest way it to just delete the non dos partitions and then create a new dos partition.
fdisk , partition magic are two programs I know will work in doing that. |

That won't get rid of the linux boot loader in the mbr. If it's had nothing but linux partitions on it, you may have trouble installing windows on it even after deleting the linux partitions if that's your intent. The most fool proof way if that's the case is to zero fill the drive(s) with the hard drive manufacturer's hard drive utilities.

To get your mbr back just pop in the XP cd and do a fix mbr (I forgot the exact command but search for it on google)

the comand for that is
fixmbr this will put everything back to normal for xp works great as I just did it yesterday when I removed red-hat ver 9.0 from a system I was dual booting with xp-pro |

well i dont think the computer is powerfull enough to run XP in that its only a pentium 1 200Mhz
i was gonna put 98 back onto it...

then if you plan on installing w98, why not just reformatt the drive and go from there.
you can use the w98 start-up floppy and fdisk to remove any non dos partition, and formatting will remove everything else so you can do a clean install of w98. |
