Hi:
I've been playing with Slackware 10 for a couple of months, but I'm unable to resolve a sound issue. The KDE system sounds only play when logged in as root. When logged in under my user account none of the KDE system sounds play. I can play mp3's and other audio files, but not system sounds. So first I found a thread saying to try "chmod 777 /dev/mixer*" "chmod 777 /dev/audio*" "chmod 777 /dev/dsp*". That didn't work so I tried "chmod 666 /dev/dsp*" and "chmod 666 /dev/mixer*" as posted on another forum, but I still have no system sounds as a user. Any idea's? thanx, Shaun |

Try adding your user to the sys group.

My users are already part of the sys group
As per /etc/group .... sys::3:root,bin,adm,jalbes,ronda .... Yet still no system sounds as a user. Strange how I can still listen to mp3's tho. Any other idea's. |
