X server crash
Hey, i just installed Fedora Core 2 on my computer. It boots up into the Boot Loader fine, i click on the feodra and i goes through the start up and then i get a the message "I cannot start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X sever output to diagnose the problem? " Then is has the Yes and No selection. I clicked yes, i cant make heads or tails of it, i click no i just get a command promt. Any idea why this is happening?
Edit: It is a single boot machine, i went over an older linux, mandrake 10.0 i believe. this is the first boot in fedora |

You have to edit your xorg.conf file. I'm not sure how exactly it's done in fedora, but try to find something on google about it. You basically have to set up your keyboard layout, mouse type, resolution and other things.

ok went searched last night and found the x server website telling me to type this in: setxkbmap -rules xfree86 -model pc104 -layout us -option ""
I type this in and get the message Unable to display"Default Dispaly". Does anyone know why this is happening? |

I think you'd be better off going to a Fedora specific site for information rather than the X server website (was it freedesktop.org?). I use gentoo, and what I need to do is type in xorgconfig at the user prompt, and it takes me to a short Q and A form to help set up X. Also, are you sure you're using xfree86? I think most distributions come with xorg now.
Now that I think about it Fedora should be a very simple distro to set up, so setting up X that way shouldn't even be required. I beleive Fedora 3 is out, so you might want to try a copy of that. Hope this helps Dswissmiss |

The set up you pulled up sounded as if it was for the keyboard. Go to www.linuxquestions.org and go to the Fedora Forum. The command you need is something along the lines of Configure.X or Config.Xfree. But they should be able to tell you exactly.
