How is the legal problem of the opensource with SCO?

It died long ago, SCO couldn't prove any of their claims.

I thought it was going to take 5 years at least, so we can use linux with some peace now that it is over.

Unfortunately it hasn't died. SCO has sued IBM, Novell and RedHat, Autozone and someone else. Autozone and the other one have been dismissed since they were only end users. The others are still ongoing. Most feel that the lawsuits have no merit and will be dismissed but who knows. Even if somehow or another SCO wins, all that would have to happen would be for Linux to alter the code a little bit. Regardless the end user won't be held liable for using Linux if some idiot judge were to award the case to Microsoft...er. SCO.
