Powerbook 3400c
While, I recently acquired a Powerbook 3400c. Apparently it has at least a 180MHz PPC CPU, I have no idea how big the hard drive is, and if I can find a RAM module I can upgrade it to a max of 144MB, right now I belive the RAM is at 48MB.
The PB has Mac OS 8.1, I read somewhere that due to firmware issues, it could not support Mac OS X... Any idea if this is true or not?Anyways, currently I'm simply trying to get this thing to connect to the internet. I has Netscape Professional 4.03 right now, and there is a list of profiles when I first open netscape. I believe all require a password (which I lack), but think I'm getting around that by hitting cancel when it prompts me for a password. Any ideas on how to loose those? Anyways, I found the TCP/IP settings under the apple menu(clicking the apple, what is the proper name for that menu?), and set them to ethernet and use DHCP, I'm certain the network I'm on uses DHCP here, however the old apple refuses to make a connection... Next issue: I cant figure out how to navigate the hard-drive, which someone chose to name Davis (how do I change that to something less annoying?). I cant find folders with stuff like settings for porgrams. I cant figure out how to un-install MS word and MS powerpoint (I prefer Open Office) or any other apps for that matter... I would like to have a few more icons on the desktop, or a menu that is in beter order... However I cant figure out how to make a shortcut (or alias if you prefer) with the Mac OS... Any help would be greatly appreciated! L J
