cluster question

Ok, I know I am very weak with linux, however I have a few friends that are pretty good with linux.

Myself I want to see how a linux cluster works, I understand the basic ideas behind them.

I oftered to provide several computers at my place to build a small cluster if my friend would want to try it out.

However, I have a very mixed batch of processors.

He was thinking at first that all the processors that are part of the cluster need to be the same, speed and brand but was not sure.

So my question is.

If we setup a Main computer for the cluster, (master I guess) then several others at just the processing power, can they be of different speeds? They would all be 32 bit, AMD and intells.

If the processors can be different I am going to try to set that up just for kicks and giggles and try to learn something as well.

hey man don't quote me on this, but as far as I know, each system in the cluster does not have to be the same cpu, they can be mix-matched. the only efferct would be the amount of load that one system can handle.

Consider downloading OpenMosix -- it works with different hardware, even different architectures. I've tried it before with a 3 P100s and a P3-533...
