baby steps back to linux

Ok, I now carry a 1 GB pen drive with feather linux on an Qemu, so I can plug into a windows PC and emulate feather linux. It is a small distro about 64 megs.

The drawback to this one, is that is is the verison designed to run from CD so it does not save any of the settings back to the Pen drive, however it is still neat.

Next week I should be getting a couple of hard drives and I am going to build a small box just for linux.

AMD K63/450, all the ram I can find, 20 GB hard drive, 10/100, CD RW-hopeful I have a spare DVD drive for it.

Also, if anyone knows of a distro that is made to run from a Pen drive and will update settings back to the pen drive let me know.

Also, if anyone knows of a verison i can put on the pen drive that will be bootable, that would be cool tool

Damn, I just recently saw something on distrowatch.com about pen drive distro's, that are bootable, but I can't remember any of them .
I think they were just pen-drive versions of bigger distros, such as mandrake or something.

Just make sure your ethernet card is supported under linux...I guess you could run your specs by linuxquestions.org or somewhere to see if anyone had problems with certain parts.

Flonix has a distro specifically for thumb drives. Google it and you should be able to find it. Also try damnsmall linux. Not sure if it will save settings to the thumb drive but it might be worth a try.

http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb/ tells you how to get knoppix to run from a usb stick. Knoppix is already designed to run off a cd and it is not a bad distro at all!

Try it
