hi, assuming i have the linux drivers for my wireless NIC, how do i get knoppix to recognise it by itself..
ie i want to put the drivers onto the knoppix CD so that my wNIC will be automatically recognised and the internet will work.. i have it currently set up as an ad-hoc network, with the PC in question connecting to another (using windows) which is directly connected to the cable modem.. so what would i have to do to get that to work with linux? also, wheres a good place to download the latest version of Knoppix now? or is there a better, older version (looking for low resource usage, but full functionality is always nice) whats something easy (preferably free) that will likely work with my CD burner (in windows) - the drive is called QSI CDRW/DVD SBW242C in device manager (its on a travelmate 2300 if that helps). i tried nero 6 but that has issues with SP2 apparenty, and i tired nero 5.5, but it didn't seem to recognise my burner, only giving me that 'virtual' thing. |

You'd have to get a windows program that supports tar.gz files. The only one that comes to mind is WinZip, but that's shareware.
For most drivers, you have to uncompress and compile the drivers. I had this problem with a high-powered SMC card I borrowed from a friend. You could try to install Cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/) and try to compile them in Windows. Once that's done you could copy them to a floppy and try to load it with modprobe after you've booted into knoppix. Another way would be to compile it in Windows, and once in Knoppix, mount the Windows drive, and try to 'modprobe' it from there. Good Luck, Mike |
