SLackware linux and mouse config
Just installed Slackware 10.0 and am having a little trouble with my mouse.
Where can i modify the settings for it? Running KDE and tried the control center but it doesnt seem to load. Using an old serial mouse. Thanks in advance Last edited by shaticus; 12-12-2004 at 03:13 PM. |

Do you mean getting the scroll wheel to work and such? You have to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf to do that.
This is how my section looks for my logitech optical mouse. The ZAxisMapping lines is for the scroll wheel: Section "InputDevice" # Identifier and driver Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" # Mouse-speed setting for PS/2 mouse. Option "Resolution" "256"

Sorry, i should have tried to explain this a little better, I was doing setup and accidentally hit enter twice, so I was never able to set up the mouse. Is there any file i can edit to set it up or is there a program that will scan for the device for me and set it up.
Thanks |

Hmm, I don't think Slackware does any hand holding for you, so as far as I know either going into /etc/X11/xorg.conf, or doing xorgconfig is the only way to configure a mouse.

To re-run the setup for the mouse (and almost all the other setup options from the Slack install):
login as a regular user su - root then run: pkgtool goto Setup move to mouse, then hit the space bar to select the mouse option make sure OK is highlighted, then hit enter (use the arrow keys to move it sideways) You'll now have the opportunity to re-run the mouse setup Happy Slacking ![]() Mike |

Thanks!
One more question though, I know windows server has a remote desktop utility, that you can connect and run explorer from a remote computer as if you were sitting in front of the server. Is there any similar program for linux? Thanks |

There's tons of utilities. I personally use VNC on Linux.
Slackware includes a "Remote Desktop" feature -- Assuming your using KDE, click on the KDE icon on the left, then goto System --> Desktop Sharing. That will open up the Wizzard which looks exactly like the Windows one. Although you didn't ask specifically, but still relevant, Slack has a utility to connect to Windows Remote Desktop.. It can be found under the KDE icon --> Internet --> Remote Desktop Connection Have fun, Mike |
