Operating System - Linspire 4.5 Linux OS...Any good?
Hi,
I am new to the site so forgive if this has been ask before. My aunt is buying a new pc and she found a good deal on a celeron based pc. But the thing is the OS is linspire 4.5. I have never come across this before is it any good compared to the mainstream windows? She is gonna use the pc mainly for emails and web browsing. Any comments on this? Many thanks. |

Racingzone, Welcome to PC Mechanic.
Linspire is a type of Linux OS not windows, I personally have never used it but here is a link to their website, should answer some questions about it. www.linspire.com Maybe someone will be by with linspire experience. Mike

Get a new distro.....SuSE is real good. or go back to windows. Lin(whateveritisthismonth)dows is the worst of both worlds. Not linux enough to be stable and not windows enough to be easy to use.

I happen to be running Linspire 4.5 one of my computers. I have found the OS pretty stable so far and easy to use. The speed of the OS could use a bit of tweaking but over all I found Linspire to be a pretty decent OS.

this really depends on what 'other' programs she wants to run. sure simple enough in linux you can setup webbrowsing and email. if shes already used to a windows enviroment get her to try out both operating systems.

Use AMD Atlon not Celeron
[QUOTE=racingzone]Hi, i,Bob "The web dr. and have been working with computers for 20 years and a avid game player.
Remember it is better to buy alittle more then you need now. You would be better off by purchasing XP Home Windows, especially for a Novice. |

If its really a good deal (example a pc for $300-$400), then you could probably get it and then buy win xp home and install it on the comp. for ur aunt.
