Does Windows XP hamper Linux install?
Hi,
I've installed XP Pro, using its built in partitioning to partition off several separate drives. I've left the extra drives unformatted to receive distros. However, when I boot up to a bootable Linx cdrom, the system just skates over the cd and delivers XP to the screen. I've tried this with a couple of distros with the same result. I have enabled booting from the cdrom in the Bios. I've tried the 'install new programs' facility in XP but can't get the distros to open. I don't know the exact commands I should be using and I'm wondering if there is a general way to install distros on another drive from within Windows XP. Or am I just missing something simple? Any ideas, anyone? Happy Christmas to all. |

Try downloading a bootable Linux floppy.
Or maybe you burned the ISO the wrong way. U should not enable "make bootable" when burning it. |

Your issue is probably much simpler than the above post
Check your bios settings and make sure that your cdrom is set to boot before your hard disk.

xp does not hamper the installation of linux at all, it is best installed in free space on the hard drive, unpartationed space.

I think chapium has it right......your system is either not seeing the bootable CD before the hard drive, or the iso was burned wrong on your CD. Have you tried to boot the linux distro on another machine?
