Changing Default Folders

I've heard you can change the default folder icon in OSX (the blue one) into another folder icon that you specify. I know you can change folder appearances copying/pasting the icon over, but what I want is for the folder i specify to be the default one; that is to say that when i right click and select 'New Folder' I don't want the blue one. I've heard you need to change some things way down in the system files. I don't want to delve into there and mess things up though. Anyone know if this can be accomplished??

PS- Would it be possible to write an Applescript to perform this task for me ever time i make a new folder???
