SATA probs when setting up fedora core 3...

Well here is what I have done:

I partitioned my C drive(SATA) and created a Linux ext2 partition and a swap partition using partition magic 8, that went smoothly(dual booting w/ xp pro).

Then I booted using the fedora cd, started going thru the install, and it says that it cannot find any disk drives to install to. The partition shows up as a OS when booting with bootmagic, so I assume it is correct, and I assume that the problem is that it cannot find the drivers for the SATA drive.

So once I get the drivers, how do I load them for the linux install?

thanks

SATA support is lacking which all distros/kernels. Someone may know better than me but I don't think FC3 works at all with SATA. If you have a via chipset, I know some distros can work with SATA. Your best bet for any easy SATA install, (no promises, just a chance it might work) is Mandrake. They are the closest you will find to an "easy" SATA install. Don't even attempmt SATA raid

Mandrake is your only hope of pulling this off without recompiling the kernel. Which I have only done once and it was tough. It's a great distro to familiarize yourself with Linux anyways
Good Luck, and try www.google.com/linux for linux specific searches.

Here's how I managed to set up Highpoint HPT374/SuSe 81, it may give some pointers.

Download the correct driver from www.highpoint-tech.com.
Copy the files to a floppy, according to the installation file.
When the language selection screen comes up, press ctrl+Alt+F1, this gets you to a command line prompt. I can't remember the exact steps, I should I went through them enough times, yours will be different any way. Basicly you mount the floppy, then copy the files to memory, if every thing goes to plan, you get back to the insallation screens and install as normal.
Hope this helps.

Sorry the info in my last post is not helpful to you. You have a Promise SATA chip on your mobo.
You could browse the CD that came with your mobo, you may find the driver you are looking for in the Promise folder. If there is there should be instructions on instaling.
let us know you get on.
