Boom Modem Help

Hello I have a problem with my modem

I emailed my ISP virgin.net and they sent me all relevant adresses and numbers

Keyed in all the details in yast and aparently they are correct, but my modem seems to not respond ANY Commands given.

What I would like to know if there are any bash commands I can use to solve the problem or configure my modem?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MY system:

eMachines 170 - Intel Celeron 1.70 - 128 L2 Cache
632 MB Ram - Modem conexan softkey 56K
WDC Hard Disk 40GB with Windows XP Home Edition
HDS Hard Disk 41.1 GB with sue 9.1 pro and extra room for other o/s's

And the best part is that Linux boots faster then my Windows all with my weak processor!!!

Its been a while since I used SuSE, but the following should be generic enough to use:

Login as root from the console and run
Code:
dmesg | less
Look for any lines that look like the text below, or any reference to a modem:

ttyS0 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
ttyS1 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

then try using Minicom to communicate with the modem directly:
Code:
minicom /dev/ttyS0
If you are still having trouble, please specify if the modem is an ISA or a PCI, since i'm having a hard time finding that modem's specs on Google. Also note that if its a Winmodem/Softmodem, you might have a hard time finding drivers for it.

Mike

If you log on to http://start.at/modem then click on home page then click PCI. You find a list of modems that have/havenot Open Source drivers. You will need to know the chipset for your modem.
