Graphics card help

I am running SuSE linux 9.1. I downloaded this driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-7167.html for my geforce 2 mx400 card. I tried to install in the terminal, but when I type sh (drivername), I get an error saying I have to shutdown Xserver. I restarted my computer and tried again and it still didn't work. What am I doing wrong?
