Use SUSE mostly, have both Slackware 10.1 and the latest debian, I intend to try both, also getting to like Solaris 10, always seem to return to SUSE though.

just like to second a vote for puppy.. mostly nice and efficient unlike most linux distros (~50MB download). u can easily change it to look what u like by installing ICEWM (very easy with the installer).. looks a lot nicer when its like XP (or whatever u like). boots from anything (liveCD, usb, hdd, etc). i would reccomend the opera distro though as opera runs better than mozilla. good support forum too.

I like gentoo and prefer Alinux. Alinux looks great and works wonderful. Also Damn Small Linux is a great Linux distro for computers with low system requirements.

One OS I'm using on really old hardware is Beatrix. It's great for people that have really old computers that they dont want to throw away because it has everything you need in an OS (browser, email, AIM) and it's really light.

smokin MEPIS-32 6.0.4 beta2 !!!

Really like this forum but it is obvious to me that very few here have tried the newest Mepis beta2 or there would be more mention of MEPIS and it would be named in polls like this. You folks need to give it a try...and..I bet most who try it keep it. I've tried many of the ones mentioned and I'm always back to MEPIS. It is a live CD so you can try and not install unless you want it. It's the first live cd I have ran that was super fast and configured everything automatically including the net on the first shot. Take care, 2GNUBY

Just curious, can you all tell me WHY you like linux? I tired a few versions and they didn't seem that diff from Windows. So, what is the point - rather, what is it you like about your linux distro?

I might like Damm Small Linux if it turned out to be fast, I like the idea of a fast and compact OS... but I think a small OS with a GUI is a better, since a GUI is just expecte these days.

For me, It's extremely virus / spyware proof
I can configure the distro the way I want
I like the Open Source way of thinking
I don't really care about running games on my computer
the cost

I can understand the virus issue and not having spyware problems....I think thought I would go for the Mac OS if that was a major issue.

Doesn't using Linux day to day get to be a hassle? I mean with compatitblity issues with Winodws?

I agree the multi-login feature is very secure

1 - the root login - for installation administration, ensures the system is not ruined by other less skilled users

1a- The separate user login for every day use.

1b- and the storage of files in the /home/userid, which make sure your files are protected from accidental removal

I disagree the open source games are simple but very entertaining.

There is really no pain, and no compatibility issues that I've seen, or that I have noticed?

A Mac would be nice, (an orginal Mac) non-intel based, but for me it's a price issue. That why I like Linux
