downloading suse or other operating systems
I have win 2000 on my computer and also office 2000 .
Have downloaded suse to a cd awhile ago and have been using it once in awhile and kind of like it but do not want to use it all the time so would like to know where I can download it to put it on my computer hard drive and also where to download it too. How to install it and how to get into if I can get into from boot up or not. I am thinking suse as that is the one I am familiar with but guess could probably get used to one of the others. My computer information is listed below. Have just a download on D which I can format and get rid of leaving D empty could probably get rid of F as well . My backups are mostly on CDs but do have some info in E . If someone could just give an idea on what I can do would be greatful. You will have plenty of choice in the mater just look at the forum what is your favourite free operating system or the post linux links!
As for installing you have to make some free unpartitioned space as you well know here are some usefull sites: www.Yoper.com - http://www.mandriva.com/ - http://www.mepis.org/ http://fedora.redhat.com/ - www.gnoppix.org They are all straight forward installations. And then just burn the iso to CD directly. Hope this helped igf any more queries just ask

If you want to try out SUSE, here are the instructions for installing 9.1 via FTP. The bootdisk for the FTP install is here. This is a much smaller download then the CD installer, initially, as it fetches the files it needs for your installation as it installs, so you need a constant connection with the internet.
You can also install from a CD as well, here. These are the 9.1 version, which looking at DistroWatch looks a little outdated in its release. 9.1 was released in 2004, almost 12 months ago. This may be what you are using. Here is the SUSE site where you can download the FTP or CD installs. Instructions as well. The CD is the better option in my option. Installing is very basic and easy to understand. It has a graphical installer and a partitioner so that you can format any partitions that you plan to delete and then install SUSE on that partition(s). Refer to the guide on the site, or search on google. The people here can also be quite useful, try and mention what version you are installing, the installation method, and your paritioning scheme. Hope it works out. |
