Not quite sure what you mean by "registering". I can tell you that it installs as a service and is generically known as a Thin Client. It is now an integrated part of W2k Server that provides a multisession environment that allows client devices to access a virtual Windows 2000 Professional desktop and Windows-bases programs running on the server. All operations, short of mouse, keyboard, and video, are being performed at the server and not the remote computer that you are accessing the server through. It's great for remote server administration. I have clients at work that use it for accessing server-installed programs.

Hope this helps!

the client is sometimes a thin client, but the line isn't as black and white as that. the server or the service is never known as a thin client. the use of the term thin client to only describe a client of a terminal server isn't really a good definition, either...thin clients are generally dependant on a server for just about everything, except client side processing and the user interface...

no, MS's terminal services are integrated into W2K server, now. no one ever accused MS's terminal services as being good(how can they be on a non-multi user OS), so there are various alternatives and augmentation's to MS's weaknesses....citrix wouldn't even be a footnote, if MS's solutions were strong.

beyond that, it's more or less a strictly windows service and since it's graphical in nature, it's a resource hog. the majority of Unix-based terminal solutions scale up better, they're just not as pretty. I couldn't imagine any Windows server doing the processing and storage for 1000 clients at a time, but that's pretty routine on *nix based solutions. pretty graphics are fine for little stuff, but when you need to get your work done, they just get in the way.

WLSB,
I see your point with the "Thin Client" thing. I kind of threw out a generality that could be misunderstood. However, I don't understand your rebuke of my second quote. You seem to disagree with it and yet you restate the exact same thing that I said.

What do you mean by that?

it wasn't a rebuke. it was a minor rephrasing, where MS isn't the only one who has terminal services, and a statement that in the big picture, MS's solutions aren't very good. the question was asked in the alternative OS board, so I have to assume the person isn't asking for MS stuff.

sorry that you took it the wrong way.
