Linux - Boot Problem
I have tried installing Fedora Core 4 a few times and the installation goes through without a hitch. But when I reboot, GRUB doesn't come up. I just boots in Windows and does it thing.
I have both an IDE and a SATA HD. Both the Windows partition and the purposed Linux partition are on the SATA, so lets forget about the IDE. I have a partition named Linux on the HD. When I go to install it, I find the partition (sdc), "give it" /, the root directory, and install it. 1) Where should I mount(?) the swap partition? 2) How should I go about getting GRUB to show? In the options for OS's for GRUB to load, I choose sda (Windows/MBR on SATA) and add sdc (the Linux partition that I created in Windows that I set Fedora to install itself on.) Where did I go wrong, where do I go from here, and how do I get there? ^fo |

I am not sure what you are doing wrong but I used Boot-US and it worked flawlessly, you can configure it from windows.

How does it work?
At this point Fedora Core is installed on my computer, I just can't get to it. Would you just install Boot-US and it auto-detects OS's or you give it a partition to look to? ^fo EDIT: Got it (Boot-US) up and running and I see the Windows boot record/partition with bootable next to it and "Linux nat." and "Linux swap" and neither have bootable next to it. So when I go to configure Boot-US, I get no option to boot into the partition containing Fedora. Now what? Last edited by foolishone; 06-21-2005 at 09:45 PM. |

Alright, I got it and I am actually writing this in Fedora Core.
The answer I found for the boot problem was: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread9879.html Post #8, follow it exactly. Here's the post: "oh well the setup would not install onto the primary hard drive so they way i partitioned it was 1. select auto partition (check modify partitions) 2. select /boot partition and click edit chech the box that says set to primary partition. 3.when setting up boot loader check the box at the bottom that says configure adavanced boot options 4. chech the circle that says setup MBR on /hda. 5. continue installation 6. reboot and now you can select what you want to load. I don't know why Boot-US didn't work, maybe when I go back into XP it will now find Fedora bootable. ^fo |
