I guess this belongs here, feel free to move it mods if it doesn't.
I am beginning to look at laptops for myself. I would mainly be using it for Web Design and music listening. It's basically so I don't have to be stuck in one spot to work on my website or homework. I really never do graphic intensive work (like games) that involves a good graphics card, so that is not too important. And, as the title suggests, I would like Linux. I have SuSE 9.1 Pro, so I would use that. I really want to know what hardware is good for that distro. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I do not have a set price range, but under $750 would be nice. I know most laptops come with Windows XP, but that is no problem. Thanks, Aaron

A lot of Linux people are getting iBOOKS or PowerBooks instead of Linux. Better eye candy and all of your 'nix programs work. I know several developers that have recently bought Apple.

Too expensive. Plus, I don't like the look too much.

Acer has a lot of nice ones that are pretty linux compatible. Check any laptop you want here:
http://www.linux-laptop.net/ As a rule, the newer the distro, the better the laptop support. Suse 9.1 is a little long in the tooth; I believe suse is up to 9.3. You might want to try a more recent distro like mepis, ubuntu, mandriva, all of which are freely downloadable. Mepis and ubuntu are also live cds so you can check them out before you install. The perennial problems are with the power management features and wireless but the newer distros are much better. |

Thanks. I just got some magazine articles on Linux with laptops, so those will help in my decision.
