Backup Scripts

Hi all,

I've recently aquired a Sony tape drive that I plan to install into my Linux box for automatic backup of files every night. Would a simple cron script do the job? If not, how might I go about writing backup scripts? Also, if anyone has any good links that detail writing backup scripts for tape drives in Linux I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

You might look into using dump. You can tell it what you want to back up and call it from a cron script. Best of all, it was basically designed to use tape backup. Here is the home page for it. There is a link to a HOW TO at the bottom of the page.

Hope this helps.
