DSL - Internet Connection
I have just done a hard drive install of Damn Small Linux. The problem that I am having is with connecting to the internet.
I am trying to use the onboard ethernet port. I have DSL(internet connection) with PPPOE, but when I am in Linux and select PPPOEconfig, it scans but it cannot find. So I go to netcardconfig (even though I don't use a card), there I type in (DHCP turned off) the IP, Subnet, Gateway, and it also asks for a broadcast address, what should I put in for the broadcast address? Or is there another way I should be going about this? Greatly appreciated, »fo |

I've never set up a Linux machine with a PPPOE configuration before so I can't be of a lot of help. However, there are a couple of things I noticed in your post.
Have you checked to see if the onboard NIC has been recognized? lspci, from a bash prompt, should show you if it is recognized or not. If it is see if the correct kernel module has been loaded by Googling for the driver name for that NIC. Then run lsmod from the bash prompt to see if that kernel module has been loaded. |

If I may add, try also running
Code:
ifconfig -a Mike |

Update:
I after the lspci, I saw two ethernet adapters, and sure enough when I looked at the back of the case, there was an ethernet card. (I was too foolish to check the back of the case for an ethernet card in the first place,) So I plugged the Cat5 cable in the PCI card, ran netcardconfig, and I was on the internet lickity split. I never did get the onboard to work. »fo |
