Java in Linux
Hi Folks,
ok..I have LM7.2 on a dual boot with w98. In Konqueror I have Java, and the script set to detect globally. Should I have it set to detect automatically..or set the path myself. Konqueror is using the Blackdown version. In Netscape I have the java set there as well. I'm not able to view any java pages, and I need to if I'm gonna switch to Linux as my work on the net is java driven. Is there something I'm missing here,or not doing that I should in order to make this happen? Thank you so very much for your time.I've been struggling for months in attempt to make this happen, rather than come here whining after the 1st few failures.Thanx again

So no one has an answer for this one huh? Hehehe....neither did the folks on the Mandrake mailing list. It's probably something where I have to re-install the java package or something? Now to figure out how to do that..lol.
I think Linux is about where Windows 3.0 was.Anyway..a good wknd to all who may stumble across this

I really have no idea about Konqueror, since I never install KDE....there is an option in the kernel configuration that disables java binaries if you don't select it, but I believe Netscape uses its own java interpreter, so that shouldn't matter. maybe a botched install or something's corrupt.
did you install netscape, or is it what came with Mandrake? if you didn't install it, I would recommend removing the version you have and grabbing it directly from http://home.netscape.com/download/ I don't think I would go as far as windows 3.1, but I tend to agree with you....only as far as X goes. the CLI and base system are infinitely superior to DOS, except as far as graphics go, but with the boom of command line graphics apps that's hitting with SVGAlib(and some others) and kernel level graphics support, that will change. |

Thanx alot for your reply,I really do appreciate it. Something may indeed be corrupt, getting alot of errors while trying to do the Mandrake updates too.Doesn't speak well for a healthy install
.I have no fear of wiping the drive clean and starting again,2 drives in this box,so may try that if all else fails.Netscape, yeah I'm using what came with it alright.I hate Netscape, don't like the windows version either.I still don't know a darn thing about installing programs in Linux,so I think I need to start there 1st..lol!!Then perhaps take a look at Mozilla or Galeon. I'm gonna stick with it cause I hate the way microshaft is going, subscription software gives me uncontrollable bouts of projectile vomiting.W98 is a great operating system.I think way too much blame gets put on the OS when it's really hardware configuration problems,or the hardware itself, in ppl's machine showing up as invalid page faults, illegal operations, bsod's, and misc. crashes. Hava great weekend WLSB,and thanx again for your time.
