Hi res07tg2,

Mandrake has the easiest setup and is most like Windows, so it is easy to learn.

Also, get to know Linuxnewbie.org and MandrakeUser.org, both good sites with tons if information.

I really suggest getting to know the basic commands because it will make everything a lot easier later on.

Another good guide for the basics:
http://www.local.net/~jgo/LinuxGuide/

Hope that helps.

"Windows X" is actually a GUI. There are many to choose from, and Mandrake has over 11 different "windows managers", of which, KDE and Gnome are the easiest to use/setup. They are both most like the Windows98 style of desktop.
I agree, Mandrake 8 is probably the easiest for a newbie to get and install. The toughest part is getting the right image on the boot floppy to start the install. Once you've got that figured out, the rest is done by a GUI installer. The installer assumes you know a little about Linux, and you'll need to figure out things like which partition to install to (if you have two or more HD's, this is easy), and how to mount CD-ROM's, CDRW's, and other HD's, although the Mandrake install does automatically install other partitions on the same HD.
I just went through 4 installs of Mandrake on multi-boot systems this week, so, if you need any help...
