Linux diskless install...
I have a laptop that doesn't have any CD drive or Floppy disk drives. Can I still install linux on this machine? I was thinking Fedora core 4. But this laptop only has 128 megs of ram and is a P3 700 Mhz.
Any instructions would be good as I have searched up to page 27 ongoogle checking every page. People talk about a PXE installation but it seems like too much work. |

I'm no expert on Linux installation but I'm just curious how you could possibly install ANY operating system without a floppy or CD drive. The os has to load from some media.

It's easy on Windows.
Take the laptop hardrive out, buy a 2.5 to 3.5 IDE adapter, bung the hardrive into a desktop PC, copy the I386 folder in to the root of the drive, Install DOS 7.1 on the hardrive as the primary and only hardrive, put smartdvr.exe in the root drive, put the laptop hardrive back into the laptop, load up DOS, run smartdrv.exe, go into I386 folder and run winnt.exe and that's it, windows installs. |

How about an external USB CD or hard drive?
