using linux?
First can linux be a good "sole" OS? i mean if you have a brand new build and you want to run linux is it good all aorund? also i was wondering can you still use the same programs with linux like say: AIM or mozilla or opera? and finally what version shud i use?? thanx for any help. i dont know much about this.

YES linux can be a sole o/s, but before making the leap you might need to research on the hardware you select for such build.
most of the software you describe in there is usually available from the distros CD DVD's or ISOS, and there are compatible IM Clients with multi-protocol compatibility ex GAIM, Kopete The distro selection depends on personal preference and knowlege level. dont forget to take a look at the stikied threads at the top of this forum section there is usefull informatioin to help you with the selection process.
