Finally got rid of Windows
I finally e-bay'd all 4 of my XP licenses and installed linux instead, so I'm now officially M$ free. Mac OS and linux in my house. I hadn't booted a windows PC here for almost 2 years anyway so I guess it was about time really. Now I just need to figure out this Linux thing.

Great job! My linux distro (Fedora Core 4) is not working properly, but once I get that fixed, I will see myself using Windows less and less, pretty much only for games.
What Linux distro do you have? |

I loaded Ubuntu for now. I'll learn this one and probably try others. I had Suse 7 a while ago and liked it so I may try the newest distro of that.

I could never get Ubuntu to work, but it looks nice. I had SuSE 9.1 Pro and it was VERY nice. User-friendly and tons of features. Have fun, you get the hang of it pretty quick.

I use SUSE 10 which is my favorite distro at the moment but have used Ubuntu and have just got Ubuntu 5.10 and will install it soon.

I just installed SuSE 9.1 for the secondary family computer (the primary one is in the shop). It is really user-friendly and easy to use. I really like YaST, make installing/uninstalling programs very easy.

Does Suse contain support for WPA security over wi-fi?

ubuntu worked good for me, I liked it but didn't get to experience it much. I was going to go with a 64 bit Linux distro with my computer, but I heard the SLI drivers were useless, so I decided to hold off on the change.

I've been using Ubuntu (on 5.10 now) exclusively for about 4 months now at home... great development machine and does everything I need it to do. The setup was just as easy as installing Windows.

I am liking Ubuntu but it doesn't support WPA on my wireless network. I coulld hardwire the thing but seeing as I went to the trouble to get my linksys wireless PCi card installed and a driver workaround working it would be nice to use it. Anyone know of an app that adds WPA support to Ubuntu?

What driver did you get? The rt2500 driver has WPA built in.

I used ndiswrapper and a windows 2000 driver. It seems to work but there's no option to enter a WPA passphrase, only Hex or ASCII keys. I have no idea id my card uses the rt2500 chipset. I'll do a little research and try to find out.
