Question Need help getting rid of Grub

I loaded Linux on my computer and now i have desided that i do not want linux on my computer. I have a dual boot, Windows XP Pro and Fedora Core 4. Every time I format the harddrive that Linux is on and i reboot my computer it comes up with Grub. I dont know too much about boot loaders but from my guess is that is it is still looking for linux and its not there. I need help please. I need my extra harddrive for something else now and i cant use it until Linux is gone.

Grub is installed to your MBR. If you zero write the drive using your hard drive manufacturers' DOS utilities it should be gone.

A zero fill will get rid of grub but it will also get rid of everything else on your hard drive. A less extreme solution is to overwrite grub with the original windows boot loader. Just boot with your xp install cd>rescue console mode and do:

fixmbr

and if necessary:

fixboot

I was assuming you wanted to format the entire drive.

I do want to format the harddrive but my windows and linux operating systems are on two different harddrives. What i really want is a way to repair the bootloader with out having to format both harddrives.

Every hard drive has an mbr; it's just the first sector of the drive, i.e. the first 512 bytes. Grub has been installed to the mbr on your windows drive so zero filling your linux hard drive will do nothing to get rid of grub. And you certainly don't want to zero fill your windows drive. Follow the procedure I gave you and windows will overwrite grub in the mbr of your windows hard drive with the windows bootloader. When you reboot you should see the familiar windows logo.
