Can ltmodem help me go on the internet?

I have a Lucent chipset WinModem, and got Slackware 8.0 installed. Downloaded ltmodem-5.99b.tar.gz, what does it actually do? Can it make my modem work and dial into the internet, or can it only make my modem nothing more than an answering machine?

I dunno where the file you downloaded came from, but yes, there are linux drivers for a few Winmodems, including the Lucent chipset ones.

www.linmodems.org has all the files and documentation you need.

I got mine from http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/ , just new to Linux and all, and trying to get the driver to work.
