Linux installation Problem (graphic)
Ok, i have tried to install 3 different versions of Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu, and Suse) and have had the same problem with all 3. I try to install but the screen goes all funny, has lines horizontal and vertical that make it impossible to read anything or tell what i am doing.

I've noticed that Linux is picky about monitors. Some versions I've tried only go up to 1024x768 when my native res is higher. Sometimes, the desktop is about an inch off the screen. I'm not sure what the deal is. Can you try plugging in another monitor?

You will need to modify the HorizSync and VertRefresh in your xorg.conf file to the specs of your monitor.

I can't speak for the other distros, but when SUSE boots into Grub, you can change the video settings using the function (F2 F3) keys.
Play with that and see if it works. X can be a pain. Can you boot Knoppix?

Are you using a 64bit application? I'm not sure about Fedora and Suse, but Ubuntu 64 has some problems, including with X.
Tried it myself and couldn't get a usable res. either by manually configuring or editing Xorg. Installed 32bit Ubuntu and it detected my monitors native resolution and refresh rates during installation, no more problems. My other devices/drivers/DSL connection, etc. were also found and enabled with no problems. |
