Linux Drivers/Questions
Hey everybody,
I am thinking about giving Linux another try - I have used it before, and I loved every second of it. The reason why I stopped using Linux was because I could not find an ethernet driver and printer driver for both devices. My current printer is : HP LaserJet 1020, and my ethernet card is: 3COM Gigabit LOM(3C94) and I also have this ethernet card disabled: Linksys LNE100Tx version 2.0 Fast Ethernet PCI card. My current hardware setup is: ASUS P4P800 Deluxe, P4 2.8ghz 800Mhz FSB, SB Live, Lite ON DVDRW SOHW-812S, NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200, WD 120GB ATA 8GB HD The questions: Is there a linux kernal that supports both my ethernet cards? My printer? I also would like to know if I could burn CD's/burn DVD's with Linux like I can with Windows, and I would also like to know if I can plug in my Apple IPOD to USB when I am running Linux, so I can transfer over my music onto the IPOD. I would also dual boot Windows/Linux if that is not possible to do with the IPOD, etc. I would like to learn more about this great operating system, but I need to know beforehand if it can support my hardware and software needs. TIA, Matt |

Update: I decided to go on Ubuntu LIVE, and I was able to get my internet connection going under the Eth0 connection.
But for printing, it detects LaserJet 1020, but under the drivers, I do not see the printer driver for 1020. I see many names such as Laserjet, Laser Jet 1000, etc. Does anybody know where I could get the driver for my model: HP laserjet 1020. Thanks Matt |

Selecting a lower model printer worked fine for me. I have an Epson Stylus CX4200 and am using the Stylus CX3200 drivers from the selection menu. Haven't had any problems. The printer actually prints significantly faster than it did in Windows.

The printer may be a problem - that's a host-based USB-only printer.
