microsoft visual studio in ubuntu?

im a beginner programmer first year in college. but i do work with c++ and vb on my own. i am building a new pc and on my one now i have xp. i want to put ubuntu on my new pc. ive been told just to partition it off and run both windows and linux, but i would really like to not rebuy xp since i lost the restore discs and paperwork and all.

I was barely paying attention to the answer because I don't use Visual Studio ever, but this exact question came up a LUG meeting not long ago. I remember the answer was yes though. Check out Mono: http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page. HTH

It's a possiblity, but I would highly discourage you from doing Windows development in an OS other than Windows.
