Ubuntu Breezy onboard NIC card problem

hey guys, im new to linux and love it so far...except...it wont detect my onboard intel 82547EI (pro/1000) ethernet card. I tried a bunch of options that the ubuntuforums.org guys gave me, but i must have screwed something up when i was compiling or something (said something about not same signedness??) anyway i hope you guys can give me NEWBIE friendly link, or instructions with the things i have to download (put on a flash drive to transfer) and the process that i need to go through to get it to work. I reinstalled breezy from scratch so that nothing i could have done wrong exists anymore, its a CLEAN system. Thanks in advance!

time to go take my neurobiology exam :-(
