Installing driver through LAN?
My monitor (MAG 770FS. Only MAG 770T and MAG770V are available as compatible Red Hat Linux 9 monitors displayed during the startx installation process) can't be detected by Red Hat Linux 9. Since I can't get to the gui I'm stuck at the localhost login. I have read about how the wget can be used to install the driver via internet connection. However, I don't have a second modem for the Linux machine. Can it be installed via local ethernet connection? I want the Linux machine to get the files from my main computer. Is this possible?
Btw. I'm a Linux return-newbie so the Linux commands are very very alien to me. I used to use Linux years ago til' I changed back to Windows for the games. |

firstly, yes that IS possible.
heres how: Download the file to the 'Main Computer', connect the Linux box via Ethernet to your 'Main Computer' then, assuming this computer is Windows-based get the following tool: WinSCP, this will allow you to connect to the remote Linux box from the Windows machine. Transfer the file over (just like FTP). Then simply login to your Linux box (this can also be done remotely via SSH, Google for Putty) and install the driver. Hope this helps |
