mandriva help

i know this is not the best forum to ask for linux help. but it has never failed me before.PC specs are in my signature. im trying to install mandriva 2006

as you can see i have a Mobility x700 PCI-E. towards the last part of the install i have to choose a driver. I have tried both VESA and Vendor/ATI/Radeon drivers but when i boot into Mandriva the screen goes blank.

what drivers should i choose for it to work?? TIA

That graphics card will be a problem for mdv 2006 for a number of reasons. It may be doable but difficult for a newb unfamiliar with the linux command line.
You need the proprietary ati driver for starters and that's not an easy install from the command line which is where you will be without that driver.
Try PCLinux instead. It's based on mandriva, comes as a live cd that you can install and has a version that comes with the ati linux driver. You can download the iso here:

The version with the ati driver you need is "pxlinuxos-p92-ati8500up".
