Initializing Kernal error
I just took apart an old Compaq desktop I had laying around, cleaned it, and put it back together. I have Xandros Desktop 2.0 (Linux-based) on it. When I boot it up I have three choices from the OS: boot regular, boot in safe mode, and setup, which I assume is everything else. Well If I try to actually load up the OS in either safe mode or normal I see "loading Kernal", then "Initializing Kernal", then it seems like the whole shebang stops. I guess the system might just be slow but I let it sit for about 10 minutes with no result. Since I plan on installing another OS on it anyways, I tried "Setup" but it just ran through some dianostic stuff and then stopped.
Should I just wait longer for the Kernal to initialize? Could this in any way be a hardware problem or is the fact that the OS started its boot process mean everything needed is fine? Is it safe to try and boot from a disc?
thx
