Kubuntu video card drivers

I've just installed kubuntu 6.06, applied the automatic updates, and as luck would have it, I'm stuck at 640x480 with no video card drivers. I'm running an ATI 3D RAGE II. Ati only seems to have linux drivers for the 8500 and up, plus the Fire card series.

Anyone know where I could find video card drivers that would work with the 3D Rage card?

Have you edited your xorg.conf file yet?
Check my Ubuntu guide as it gives you instructions on how to do this. My updated guide has a link to ATI driver instructions.

I haven't touched it. When it comes to linux, I'm like a duck out of water.

I'll give it a shot, thanks.

I had to edit my xorg.conf to get my Kubuntu box out of 640x480@60Hz with a Matrox Millenium card. It's things like this that are holding Linux back from wider desktop acceptance. I'd tell you exactly how I did it, but that was 6 months ago and I honestly don't remember. I did have to do some searching to find out how, I think I found out in one of the Ubuntu forums.

Usually all you have to do is add the horizontal and vertical sync rates to your xorg.conf file (my guide from the link above covers how to do this) and everything works... or you can just change your driver to "vesa". Although if you do the latter, you will not be utilizing hardware acceleration.

Remember, you get what you pay for... so that $150 per copy of Windows includes conveniences such as this.
