Why not do it yourself? Just think how rewarding it will be, below is an article on installing linux

You can do it yourself, it's not extremely difficult, though I would admit that DSL is the most troubling distro I've installed. However, it's also my favourite distro
.Just remember when you install it to type "install" right off the bat; it should be pretty straight forward after that. If you'd posted saturday, I would have been able to walk you through the install - I set DSL up on another old machine of mine.

It seriously is not hard. If you have ever installed Windows, believe me that a Linux install is just as easy.

Personal opinion is that if you can't install it yourself...you don't need to be running it.
Laptops can be problematic as well since they often have proprietary drivers. Many people here would be glad to help walk you though the installation and setup.

Mairving is right. If you cant install it you won't be able to run it. Linux is really simple, you just need to take the time to learn.
Whatever distro you choose just look in the docs. Any half-decent distro will have all the info you need to install, run and maintain the system.

I installed DSL easily on a TP560X and it was my first Linux install.
Read some basic info on the DSL site and then start the install and post problems here. You'll get all the help you need. Its not the most intuitive version of Linux, probably not the best choice to start with. I'd investigate the others...but get started with any one. The hard drive is fairly easy to remove if you need to change it for a bigger one. I can give you instructions to easily remove the keyboard to get at it, if thats why you want to use DSL. I can't remember if I needed the thinkpad config drivers from the IBM/Lenox site. http://www.ibm.com/support/us/ There's also good help here, nearly as good as pcmech :http://forum.thinkpads.com/ Cheers. |
