debian
I was thinking about installing and checking out Debian. I only have experience with Rad Hat. Awhile back, I set up a ftp server using Red Hat. Can I do the same thing with Debian?

Linux is Linux. All the distros do essentially the same things, they just may do them a bit differently.

Yes, you can do the same thing.
The big difference between Debian and Fedora (Red Hat is based off of Fedora) is how applications are install. Debian has a large repository and uses a system called "apt" to install them. I've never used Red Hat, but I'm sure it has something similar. Additionally, .rpm files you can install from Red Hat have a .deb Debian equivalent. |

The setup and configuration is a little different on debian than RH based systems. In particular, module loading, network configuration and the init process are different on debian based systems as compared to RH based systems. This is all very well documented but if you are very used to RH, you will find it to be an adjustment.
