i was working wid windows xp.....then i decided to switch to linux......but the problem is that while installing linux it's not able to install the LAN card......??...but it's working fine with windows....??...what should i do now....??..

What type of NIC is it, and what distro of Linux are you trying to install? Linux has gotten much better at detecting hardware and finding drivers than it used to be, but not all distros are the same.

We definitely will need more info.
What Linux Distro and version are you using? What kind of NIC is it (manufacturer and model)? Does the manufacturer offer Linux drivers? |

the NIC is intel pro 100 VE.......i am using fedora.......actually the problem is......during installation linux comes up with a list of compatible NIC's......but this one isnn't in the list.......

Pick the most generic one and go with that. In actuallity, it probably does not matter.
I *know* the Intel PRO Chipset works with Ubuntu. |

Once you get through the install, as root try running: "modprobe eepro100" then run: "ifconfig -a" and see if the NIC appears.
If not, you can also try to use "modprobe eepro" then check again using "ifconfig -a" If neither of the above work, please let us know and we'll go from there.. Regards, Michael |
