Now when linux finishes loading, the login screen does not appear and my moniter says cannot display this setting. I did get to the comand menu but ctrl-alt-f1. i also founf the xorg.config file. How do i go about resetting my resolution?

I am getting the error Error cannot open display.

Any ideas on that? It comes up when trying to open the xorg.conf

UPDATE: I fixed the permission problem. The error I get is
(gedit: 4418): Gtk-WARNING **: Cannot open Display:

I figured it out. I ended up using the command
"nano -w etc/X11/xorg.conf" and set the color depth to 16 and lowered the res. All other options gave me errors.

Thank you all
