network printer

I just installed Fedora core 5 on a machine and would like to setup a network printer. I have it almost installed but I just don't know the correct driver to use. I have an HP PCS1410v. If someone can help me and direct me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

TIA

That is a troubleshooting web link to your printer. Your model is the HP PSC 1410v

As far as installing it as a network printer, I don't know if this has a network card in it. I didn't see one in the specs. But if not, you will want to just install the printer and just share it on the network. Go into the printer properties and click on sharing and click Share As. And type the printer name.

CL, I don't see any Linux drivers for that printer at HP's site. The poster is asking where to find a Linux driver for it. You are providing Windows-specific advice in the Alt OS forum, that's not appropriate.

Whether this printer is locally installed on the Linux box or whether it's a shared printer on a Windows box on the network doesn't matter. To use the printer in Linux the correct driver must be found and installed correctly on the Linux box.

Virtually all of the HP printers use the same driver in linux called the hpijs driver. Yours is no exception:

http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...um=HP-PSC_1410

Per the above link, your printer is listed as working "partially". It should have been automatically setup during the install but your model may not be in the fedora database. Since all the HP printers use the same driver, you can choose another HP-PSC printer model during the printer setup routine and it should work reasonably well subject to the limitations noted in the above link.

No need to download the driver; I'm sure it's included on the fedora install cds.

Try picking any HP printer available; they all use the hpijs driver.

Ok, after fooling around with the printer setting instead of trying to install it via http://localhost:631 Ii went through KDEcontrol module, installed printer found my printer and correct driver and I hit test page, my printer had movement so I know there is communication, but nothing printed.

Any ideas why or what else I should do?

I can even see the test print in my XP print queue that houses the printer. The printer itself is just blinking. Any ideas?

Have you tried posting this question on a Fedora/Red Hat message board?

Ever get it working?

If not you were in the right place when you were dealing with the cups setup.
Make sure you have the print queue setup and the printers set to on (no joke theres a cups setting for turning it on and off). You could try the kde stuff but if I were you I'd get it running in cups first then play kde. I'm not running Fedora I run mostly Debian Freebsd and OSX so I don't have any Fedora specific infos to giveya. When you said you hit the test page button, was that in kde or in cups? If kde try it in cups. Chances are kde isn't using the right printer queue or the app from which you're testing it isn't setup to use the right printing command.
