Ubuntu install issues...
Hi,
I have been dabbling in the linux world for about 6 months now. My first install was FC5, i also have knoppix and austrumi on livecd and i have DSL on my thumbdrive. I like linux alot for its simplicity, but sometimes its a little hard when u are flying blind. Anyway, a friend in RUSLUG (Rutgers U Student Linux Users Group) suggested I have ubuntu on my system to get used to the environment before going nuts using the terminal and yum in FC5. So, I merely downloaded the iso file and burned it. Popped the disk in with windows up and got lots of pretty pix etc... So, I go to boot from CD and give it the go ahead to install. It starts to load and then gives me this message and seems to freeze : 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC Ummm, ok thats helpful. I am running a decent system (dualcore, sata hds, 2gb of ram) so I doubt its jsut processing, but i left it for 2.5 hrs and nothing happened, generally a bad sign. Popped this error in google and didnt get any help. Any suggestionw ould be greatly appreciated! -coldfront |

Thanks for the link. Took a look in the bios config and was unable to find that option (for disabling IOAPIC). Know where I could find it?
Thanks again! |

Look up IO-APIC in Wikipedia and you get some useful info, including what has been offered above!
