Knoppix

I would like to download this operating system to a CD I know where to find them but have no idea how to do it. I have downloaded it twice to my documents but don`t know how to put it on a CD is there a way I can download it direct to a CD. If not maybe someone can tell me exactly how to download this operating system as I need it to recover files from hard drive. Thanks Also would appreciate the exact place to download it as well.

You need to download the "ISO" and burn the iso to a CD as an image file, image files are bootable, in other words you can start your computer from them
Can you be a little more specific in what you are trying to do? because if you attempt to install an operating system to a harddrive you wish to recover files from, you run the risk of overwriting the files you are trying to recover.

Try this program to burn an ISO image of Knoppix. Download Imgburn, after it is installed right click on the Knoppix file you downloaded & Imgburn should up in the context menu, click on that to burn an ISO image to boot from. http://www.imgburn.com/

You can download a copy of Knoppix from here, http://www.knoppix.org/
Do you have Nero as CD burning software on your computer?

Your C: drive will not automatically be displayed within Knoppix, in order for you to access the files you want to restore.

You will need to mount the drive in order to view it's contents.

A BartPE CD is a good alternative to Knoppix for that use. You have to make it, and you need a copy of XP to make it.

actually this is the benefit of using Knoppix as a rescue CD, it will automatically mount your C: drive, I use it all of the time for this purpose as an alternative to BartPE. Perhaps you need to burn the latest version. Its the Ubuntu Live CD that won't mount your drives for you.

Just for the record, you can find Knoppix, System rescue CD, Helix, and a whole gaggle of other linux based "rescue" CDs at www.distrowatch.com
