ipod video encoding - ubuntu

I have just installed ubuntu while i am home on holiday break from university. overall, i like it, but the one thing i haven't been able to figure out yet (i am sure there will be more) is how to encode video for my ipod. i have followed the guides (using both VIVE GUI as well as ipodvidenc script). i installed the VIVE GUI and it appears in my applications, but when i click it, nothing happens.

using ipodvidenc, i get an error saying that AAC is an unknown audio codec. i have been trying to install FAAC, but haven't been able to get it.

i am willing to use the command line to do this, ipodvidenc seems pretty easy if i can get it working. any advice on either of these would be great

edit: all it was was not having faac and faad installed. ipodvidenc is working fine now, although Vive is still not working. if anyone has any ideas on this, i would appreciate it

thanks
craig
